Editor's note: I found out something crazy this week. Keziah has typed all of these updates on her phone. That's some serious dedication.
On Monday evening we were supposed to have a lesson with two of our friends, but one ended up canceling on us at the last minute. The other lesson though was super good. We were able to read through the Book of Mormon Introduction with two of our friends and really break it down for them. It was cool because they kept asking a lot of questions. After there lesson we had a call with the zone leaders and the Corbin elders. (Our mission is trying a new way of doing key indicators for conversion and it involves the STLs/ZLs/and DLs all having a call once a month.)
On Tuesday morning we called the other two district leaders with the zone leaders and went over the new plan. Thankfully we have very good missionaries in our zone so it did not take much explaining for them to understand and be all in. After calling the District Leaders we had our mission wide zoom call. After the mission wide zoom call we had a companion study and then drove down to Zone Leadership Council. At Zone Leadership Council we got to go more in depth about Key Indicators for Conversion and the importance of Sacrament meeting attendance. Our Zone decided that what Sister Allen and I do to message friends should be called tactical texting and have since adopted it. After Zone Leadership Council, we went to lunch at Steak and Shake with the elders. The elders were rather funny to listen to. They had some really random conversation topics. After lunch, we visited some people, most of whom did not answer their doors. 🙁 After visiting people we did social media work and went to dinner with the Blodgetts. The Blodgetts are so funny and it was made even funnier because they had an uncle visiting. After dinner we had ward correlation and then finally got a personal study in.
On Wednesday we were super excited because we both had the feeling something super cool was going to happen, so we were slightly discouraged when our first lesson did not show and our first 5 contacts did not open the door. We were determined to have a miracle though so we just kept trusting in God. We had a lesson with our friends Chris and Kelli and something clicked in the lesson. Christ kept asking what he was feeling and telling us he felt more joy than he had felt in the last decade. We did not teach him anything profound in the lesson and yet he was super excited. They were planning to come to church Sunday but something ended up coming up, but that lesson went super well! After their lesson, we had a video call lesson with our friend Kahmari. She is super sweet and has such a desire to do the right thing. After her lesson we had dinner with the Tauai family and they were so funny. Their two year old daughter was having lots of fun going through our bags. It was definitely quite entertaining. After dinner we sent out exchange news, finally got around to updating our records, and then had a call with our district leader. After calling our district leader we had a Mission Leadership Council call to start planning zone conference. This transfer is flying by. I cannot believe Zone Conference is this week!
On Thursday we actually had a weekly planning session, on a Thursday, in one chunk (the first time since I have been in this area). After weekly planning we had a lesson with our friend Janis. We are not sure how to help her because she really likes studies, but is not great at keeping commitments so she is kind of stuck. After her lesson we visited people and were able to set up a lesson with a gray dot for this coming Thursday! After talking to him we ran into two men on the way back to our car and they started talking to us. Thankfully, they decided to be kind. One of them came up to shake hands with us and that was slightly scary considering he had a gun in his waistband. It all went well though and I can now say I shook hands with a random stranger with a gun. After that we had dinner with the Lacys. They are super sweet and told us about some of their hobbies. She is an insanely good artist! After dinner we were supposed to have a lesson on the phone, but they did not answer so we called a different friend and had a lesson. We also set up a lesson so she counts as an official new friend! After that we had our weekly call with the Danville sisters. They too had a slightly scary day so we got to hear the whole story. They are both so sweet.
On Friday morning we had interviews with President McGinn. Our district is really big now, so we were definitely there for over 3 hours. Our district decided that everyone should bring food to share. One of the elders brought Fufu but nothing to dip it in. Sister McGinn started eating it with banana pudding and convinced us all to try it. Honestly it was not half bad. After that all the elders left and Sister McGinn and I had a solo party in the District Council room. Interviews were really funny because President had to get to the next district, so it was super short. After interviews we had a member give us an absurd amount of food. We also were very spacy on Friday so we forgot to call someone and they were worried if we were okay. We were supposed to have a lesson with one of our new members, but she canceled on us…again. After that we had a lesson with our friends Darren and Cora. It was a wild lesson and they LOVE to talk, but are so sweet. After their lesson we had dinner with the Mendozas. They took us to Cheddars because, as Sister Mendoza said, “I signed up to feed you, only one problem…I hate the kitchen.” They are a hilarious couple and they told us about their family. It was super fun. After dinner we walked to visit some of our friends and then finished the night by calling the Richmond ASL sisters. The connection was atrocious the entire call.
On Saturday we were supposed to have six lessons, but 5 of them ended up canceling. The one that did not cancel ended up being super good. We called our friend Miss Jay and added Brother Love to the call. They hit it off and now she is hoping to change her work schedule this summer and come to church with us. It was really cool to see the increased desire she had after meeting a friend. After her lesson we decided to have a walking day and ended up having a lesson with someone. We also had an impromptu phone call lesson with another friend, so although five canceled we were still able to have three lessons. Saturday night we had dinner with KC and Sister Law. I had to strategically drink during that meal because we were laughing the entire time. Both of them are really funny. Put them together and they are hilarious! After dinner we walked back and visited more people on the way. We were able to introduce Chris and Kelli to one of their neighbors so that was fun. After that we had a call with the Somerset sisters and called it a night.
On Sunday we spent most of the day at the church. We had ward council in the morning followed by church. Sadly only one friend made it to church, but we are hoping for a lot more next Sunday. After our ward we went to help in the branch and it was chaotic. At one point someone went up to bear their testimony and dropped a sleeping child in my lap. I was rather awkwardly holding a child until they came back. After church we studied and then had dinner with the Harrisons. For dinner we had tacos in honor of Cinco de Mayo. The Harrisons have the cutest baby girl. After dinner we visited some people and were able to have an impromptu lesson. After that we planned Zone Conference with the Zone Leaders and finished the night with a district leader call.
Nothing super crazy this week, but so many of our friends are progressing wonderfully and are excited to continue learning. God truly is in all the details and he has a plan for everyone of us!
