It was a slower week in the Tates Creek area, but still so much fun!
On Monday night we had dinner with the Blodgetts. I love them! They are super sweet and funny. After dinner we contacted our friends and then got exchange news for the Richmond ASL sisters. Kind of fun because we decided to sign it for them. The video was really bad but we had a lot of fun making it. After that we had a call with the Somerset sisters since the lack of connection on Saturday had prevented us from calling them.
On Tuesday we had our mission wide Zoom call in the morning. The main topic of the meeting was having a target and aiming for it instead of just shooting out arrows and painting the target around. Right after Tuesday at 10, we had a lesson with our friend Sarah. We could not find any parking close to her apartment in downtown. She told us to park somewhere so we listened, and then when we walked to her apartment she told us it was technically illegal to park there, but the police never come by to check! I was so stressed the police were going to come by during our lesson. Thankfully they did not, but we will never be parking there again! Our lesson with Sarah was actually really good and she was excited to read the Book of Mormon. After her lesson we went straight to lunch with Sister Kramer and Sister Blodgett. It was super sweet because Sister Kramer really wanted to take us out to lunch, but she does not drive so she convinced Sister Blodgett to go with us. After lunch we had a phone call lesson with our friend KC. We read some of the Book of Mormon with him and he was actually a lot more focused than he usually is. After that we visited some people. One of the people we visited is an older member with some health struggles. We told her about how much God loves her and she told us that she cannot wait to see him again. It was super tender, but also kind of sad. After that we had dinner at a Chinese restaurant with the Krebs and the Wrights. It was our first time really getting to know the Wrights and they are so cool. Brother Wright told us about his conversion story and it was so funny! After dinner we had missionary correlation and finished the night off with some social media work.
On Wednesday we had Mission Leadership Council (MLC). It is in Crestwood which makes for a rather long drive. The main topic of MLC was sacrament attendance (it has been on the downward trend within our mission) and helping missionaries to set goals and make plans to achieve them. Some of my favorite quotes from the meeting were, “You are not a failure if your friend chooses not to come” (President McGinn), “There is no luck in the work of the Lord” (Elder Schwartz), and “Inspiration has a time stamp on it…act quickly!” (Sister McGinn). After MLC we drove back to our area and the drive felt Sooo long! We were supposed to have a lesson when we got back, but they asked to reschedule. We were also supposed to go to Young Women's with one of our friends, but she ended up canceling on us too. We had a personal study, ate dinner, and had a District Leader Call.
On Thursday we started our day by planning our training for Rich City District Council. After that we drove down to Richmond. We then had a zone comp study about diligence, followed by a social media training, followed by us exchanging with the Richmond ASL sisters. I stayed in Tates Creek with Sister Bursett and Sister Allen went to Richmond with Sister Wood. We then drove back to our area and the chaos began. We had a short comp study before our lessons. We had a lesson with our friends Windy, Watson, and Ferlindy. We video called the Haitian Creole elders in and our friends were so surprised because they were white. Our friend just looks at them and then says, “Speak Creole.” The entire lesson was in Haitian Creole with us just awkwardly sitting there. We will sadly be passing them off for the Elders to teach, but they will still come to church with us. After their lesson we had a lesson with our friend Janis. It was a really good lesson and we talked about the importance of keeping commitments. After her lesson we had a lesson with our friends Darren and Cora. They are total Kentucky talkers! We were there for an hour but we only got to share a short spiritual thought. After that we ate dinner, reported, did some social media work, and finally got to have personal study!
On Friday we drove down to Richmond for the Rich City District Council. They had a really good training on being diligent and putting effort into everything we do. We trained on prayerfully extending invitations and had them do a Doctor/Patient object lesson. After their District Council we flew back to ours. In ours we had a mini training on having fun in the work. We did a role play example in which the Elder told me to act like a robot. After that he said I make a good robot (not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing). We are now however making “creative” foods for DC next week so we will see how that goes. We then had a training on planning and being accountable. After DC we were supposed to have potentially 3 lessons, but every single one fell through! We ended up having personal study and contacting 1 million people instead. We then had dinner with the Shumways (they were so excited because he was Sister Allen's dad's childhood bishop). After dinner we did social media and called the Danberty Sisters.
On Saturday we had a lesson with Miss Jay. She just kept talking! We barely got a word in the entire lesson, but she really grabbed on to what we did say so that was positive. After her lesson, we did yard work for an inactive family and it was so much fun! I think I spent too much of the week stuck in a car because it was SO nice to be outside! After that we walked the rest of the day and had a really good conversation with a referral. Then we had a short Bible study over the phone with a new friend named Juliet and did some weekly planning. We then had a call with the Somerset sisters and called it a night.
On Sunday we went to church, and had 3 friends there. Unfortunately, all three friends are going to be passed off to other missionaries because they prefer another language. Two to the Haitian Creole elders and one to the French/Swahili elders. We were joking that we are simply the factory to find the other missionaries friends. One of my favorite quotes from church was, “If no one knows you are following Jesus, you are probably not.” After our ward we stayed to entertain children in the branch and they were so cute, but so chaotic! After church we were supposed to visit a friend at the hospital, but he ended up canceling on us. We finished weekly planning, contacted 1 million people, and ate dinner instead. After dinner we planned Zone Leadership Council with the Zone Leaders and then finished the night with a District Leader Call.
It was definitely a slower week in our area, but we already have 12 lessons set up this coming week, so we think we were simply planting the seeds :) I am so excited for God's plans this coming week!
