On Monday we had a lesson/contact with an inactive member. He is super nice but definitely not interested in coming back to church. The lesson ended with him showing us his guns and telling us a story about accidently shooting his mattress. It was a really funny contact! We brought Rachel from our ward to the lesson with us and she is amazing! She grew up Amish and her family converted to the church when she was 13. Apparently there is a whole documentary about her family joining the church!
On Tuesday we had a pretty good day. We had our mission wide zoom call in the morning. It was pouring down rain when we went out. We had a sweet contact with an older man that ended in him telling us how to confront people and giving us marriage advice! After that we had a lesson with Charles (my Facebook miracle). It was raining super hard when we were driving there and was kind of scary because tree branches kept falling down. I watched a huge branch come down right in front of us and shatter. Thankfully it did not land on us, because it was at least large enough to have broken our windshield or dented our car. Charles' lesson was totally worth it though! He is so excited to learn more and has basically told us that everything we have taught him is true. He also told us he was going to come to church next Sunday! After his lesson we went straight to dinner with the Duffys. They are super sweet and funny, but they are leaving us! They are moving back to Utah in about 2 months. After dinner we did some social media and extra study time before calling it a night.
On Wednesday we had new missionary training over Zoom and it felt really long. We went to the church building so we would have a better connection and the lights kept turning off on us. After that we visited a lot of people and had dinner with the Nalls. They are so amazing (plus I got to talk about running with their daughter, so that was fun). After dinner we had a lesson over video call with our friend Ryan. He is really struggling, so a lot of it was him telling us about some really hard things that are weighing on him. After his lesson we had an impromptu lesson with Justin and Renee. It was really funny because Renee was convinced we had a really rough day (something about my braids being frizzy like I had rubbed my hair a lot). It was kind of funny!
On Thursday we had Crest class and a social media call for new missionaries. We left the call early to have lunch with Sister Wagner. We went to a pizza place and she spent lunch giving us dating and marriage advice! After lunch we went to Taylorsville and had a day of utter chaos! We had 4 lessons. Two with people we met door knocking, one with a random person who was taught in the past that we started messaging again, and our friend Jackie. We also met our ward Relief Society president and she gave us a tour of the entire Middle school she works at. She is the art teacher there, so she showed us some student projects over the years and there were some really cool ones!
On Friday we had district council and district lunch. We then visited a lot of people (none of which were super cool contacts), had dinner with Sister Wagner (Sister Winkel was with the Hermanason exchanges and she wanted to see her), and went to sports night. I was on the winning team for most of the night in volleyball, so that was fun!
On Saturday we finally got around to weekly planning! We also visited an insane number of people and went door knocking, but honestly it was a super slow day.
On Sunday we had ward council and church. After church we had a short lesson with our new member Heather. She is amazing and it was great to get to know her a little better. After that we went to a baptism for one of the kids in our ward because Sister Flake was playing the piano. After the baptism, we had personal study and contacted some people. Then we went to dinner with the Place family. Their kids are so funny. One of their daughters was convinced that one brand of chip was better than the other (it was more yellow). Their son went to tell her the color did not change the taste much, but instead said, “The flavor does not change the taste that much.” It was really funny. Right after dinner with them we went to the new member fireside in Hurstbourne. Our other new member, Randy, went and it was a really good fireside. We also got to know him better which was great because he just moved into our ward. After that we drove home in the snow. Thankfully most of the snow did not start sticking until we were almost home. After that we did some social media work and had a DL call.
The work in Clear Creek is finally picking up which is super exciting. This truly is God’s work and he will make it continue to move forward!
