Ice Storm & Bloody Nose at Church

This was a slower week.

On Monday night we were supposed to have two video call lessons, but neither one ended up picking up. It was rather unfortunate.

On Tuesday we had our mission-wide Zoom call. We talked about not allowing the world to distract us from our purpose (don't climb the wrong mountain). After our call we were supposed to have 6 lessons - all in the far side of our area. It was also my first time driving on snow so that was an adventure. Our first lesson was super short because we were outside and it was about 5 degrees. All of our other lessons either canceled or simply did not open the door. It was rather depressing. We took a trip to the dentist instead because Sister Flake's retainer broke. (I must be the problem since that is the second transfer in a row that my companion has broken their retainer.) After the dentist we had a sweet contact with one of our friends. We will hopefully be able to teach her, but she is always super busy. We went straight from her contact to our dinner appointment. We had dinner with the Pruntys and they are super sweet. After dinner we did some extra studying and had an STL call. Honestly, it was a super unproductive day and kind of upsetting (but that just means that this next week will be better).

On Wednesday morning we were supposed to have a video call lesson with our friend Ryan to pass him off to the Corydon sisters (he lives in their area), but he never joined the call. After that, we went to visit people and had a lesson with our friend Charles. I honestly love him so much! We had Brother Pickett with us at the lesson and they got along super well. After his lesson we visited some more people. One of the people was a self referral that we had not been able to get in contact with. It was our first time going to her house and there was nothing there when Google said we had arrived. Deciding that it was a fake address we found a place to turn around only to discover that we had not gone far enough down the road. At that point there is a car trying to turn down the road (it is only wide enough for one car at a time) so we turn and then turn around again. We start going down the road only to find out that the car we had just allowed to turn is parked in the middle of the road in front of the house we were going to visit. We wait for them to move and they finally do, only for us to realize we need to leave because we were going to be late to our dinner appointment. All that work and we did not even meet her…and we were late to dinner. 🤦 We had dinner with the Dutsons. They are a super sweet older couple in the ward. After dinner, we did extra study, social media work, and joined the mission wide transfer call. Surprise! Sister Flake and I are both staying (not that surprising since we white washed this area late transfer and she is in training still). Most of our zone stayed the same.

On Thursday we had our last Crest class of the transfer. We talked about miracles we had seen and things we had learned during the transfer. After that we did some social media work and had a lesson with someone Sister Flake found on Facebook. She was super funny. We were doing a Bible study and she told us dating was committing adultery (we think she meant sexual activity, but it was really funny). After her lesson we went to visit a lot of different people. We were able to set up return appointments with some of them, so that was super exciting. After that we had dinner with the Crawfords. They are another older couple in our ward and they are super sweet. We drove home from their house in the snow.

On Friday there was ice and snow everywhere. Mission wide, unless we were going to transfers, we were not allowed to drive anywhere, so we spent the day weekly planning and contacting a lot of people. Thankfully around 5 pm the bishop’s wife freed us from our apartment. She picked us and the Hermanas up for dinner. We had a lot of fun playing games with their family and afterwards she drove us to the church for volleyball night. I only played a few rounds because then I got to talking to Jazzy (one of the Elders friends that got baptized Saturday). She is so sweet and was telling us her excitement and fear to be baptized. After Volleyball, Rachel (another one of our members) drove us back to our apartment.

On Saturday we went to Jazzy's baptism. It was a party. (We had 11 missionaries there.) After that we had lunch and visited some people. We visited an older lady named Karen. She loves us, but we do not think she remembers half of what we talk about. After her rather long visit we visited some more people and called it a night.

On Sunday we had ward council and church. Our friend Charles came to church and we were able to show him around before the service. Everything was going great until probably 5 minutes before Sacrament meeting ended. I thought I had a runny nose, so I wipe it only to realize it was bleeding. I then grabbed my nose and started digging for tissues in my bag, because I knew there were some in there. My companion then noticed and took my bag to find my tissues. She thankfully found them, but at that point I had blood running down my arm and we remember she is saying the closing prayer. She stands up to go pray and Charles then noticed that I had a bloody nose. Thankfully, he trusted us when we told him it was all good. Right after the prayer we ran to the bathroom so I could clean up. Honestly it was a really chaotic few minutes. After church we visited a lot of people and then had dinner with the Shelly family. They are so funny. We had them play the priorities game and one of their daughters went to get rid of their job. The other daughter goes, "Are we going to be robbers?!?" So they joked the rest of the game that their whole family was robbers. After dinner we had our DL call, did social media, and called it a night.

There are so many miracles taking place and I am so glad to watch our friends progress towards their loving father in heaven.

Pictures (I really did not take any):
