On Tuesday we went and did service for our friend Hannah. She is going to have a baby boy and is working on the nursery. Sister Maynard and her worked on Painting Dinosaurs on the walls and I got to entertain her 2 year old. Anyone who has spent a lot of time with me knows that I would much rather hang out with Isla than paint Dinosaurs! We had to stay within sight and sound of Sister Maynard and Hannah, so we spent 45 minutes washing hands because it was a direct line of sight from the nursery to the bathroom… After helping Hannah we went to unlock the church for Sister Kanui. It has become a regular thing because she is teaching herself organ and likes to practice (it is super exciting because our ward has no organist). After unlocking the church we had lunch. After lunch we went to visit our old people. We had a sweet visit with Donna, but Joan was not feeling well. We also stopped by to see another older member that lives in the same facility. It was kind of sad because last time we visited she had a super sweet conversation with us, but this time she was bedridden and could not talk. We sang her a song and all she wanted us to do was hold her hand. After visiting her we went chalking. I have realized I cannot chalk to close to Sister Maynard because she puts my chalking to shame. After chalking we went street contacting. We also finally washed our car Tuesday night. It took us forever to shift the car into neutral…still not sure why the car does not have a normal shift. After that we did social media, had our STL call, and called it a night.
Wednesday was Zone conference. We are combined with the Crestwood zone, so we had to drive all the way to the Crestwood stake center. I love Zone conference because it is a super positive time to ponder everything that is stuck in your head. We talked about the Book Of Mormon a lot in the morning. A quote by our mission president that I really liked was, "Moroni didn't hide from the Lamanites for twenty years just for us not to share the Book Of Mormon." The McGinns switched up how they do awards from the Alders. They do a service and a clean apartment award drawing. Basically the way it works is you put in your companion's name if they did some act of service for you that transfer and you put in your own name if you did said cleaning job (in this case made your bed the last 5 days). I won the service award, probably because some Elder did not realize it was supposed to be your companion, so my name ended up in there multiple times. đŸ˜‚
At lunch we had a New Albany Sister's table, but the Hermanas all sat together at another table, so we ended up with extra seats. Elder Merrill decided to come sit by us which meant his companion Elder Browning also had to sit by us. It was super funny because Elder Browning turned around to find his companion after getting food and his face turned bright red when he realized that he was sitting with the Sisters. We also had Sister McGinn sitting at our table, so we had quite the entertaining conversation topic to listen to!
After Lunch we had a go-to scripture competition between the districts. My district won, but it was kind of rigged because they said we could use our scriptures and I have flash cards with all of my go-tos in my scripture case… I did realize however that I need to make new ones so that they align with the new points in Preach My Gospel. Updating my Go-to scriptures has been a fun personal study activity since then. After the Go-to scripture competition we had some training and finished the day with departing missionaries testimonies. I got to see Sister Bastian at Zone conference and it made me so happy! After Zone conference we had dinner with the Brunettes. Then after dinner, we went to the church for the craft club we are starting. We hope that it starts to have some success because the only people that came were the Brunettes (that did make for a fun hour though).
Thursday was a rather slow day. We went to visit the same elderly lady we visited on Tuesday (she ended up passing away Saturday). After visiting her we played our weekly Uno game with our member. After Uno, we read some scriptures with her and then left to get to a lesson with Carter and Lisa. They ended up canceling on us because they were not feeling well, so we went chalking instead. After chalking we went to the apartment and weekly planned. The Smith family also dropped off dinner for us. After dinner we did some social media work and made cookies to bring one of our member families the following day.
On Friday we had a lesson with Luke! We have had very spotty communication with him this past week which is kind of sad. We talked about the importance of Living prophets in our lesson with him. After our lesson we had some time to study and do social media before going to help at the food pantry. After helping at the good pantry we went to visit some people. We visited the Turner family to bring them cookies and they let us hold their animals. I got to hold my friend Potato again! They also let us help collect the eggs. I pulled an egg out from under a chicken. Then they gave us eggs to bring home. It was pretty awesome! Then we went door knocking, did some social media, and ate dinner.
Saturday was a slow day of finding. Probably one of the funniest parts of the day was when we went looking for a member that we had never met and had not record of past missionary encounters. Maps routed us through the graveyard. We ended up on this tiny road that was mostly overgrown with trees. Maps then told us we had arrived. We were joking that we were visiting a dead person. The best part was that I looked through the trees and there really was a house there. Turns out that there is a different way in, but Maps was not smart enough to know that…It wanted us to walk down a cliff, through the trees to get there - the scenic route. đŸ˜‰Saturday night we had a lesson with our inactive member Charles. His lessons are still all over the place, but we hope something said sticks with him. We brought the Kanui couple with us. They are a super sweet elderly couple. Our huge accomplishment was that we did not miss the turn coming home from his house so the drive was only 20 minutes instead of 35 (it was the first time we did not miss the street).
Sunday we went to Church and we had a really good lesson about tithing during Sunday school. Sadly, none of our friends made it to church. After church we studied and went chalking. We chalked on one of the walking trails in the area (there was some shade so we did not fry). After chalking we did some social media work and then went door knocking. We also stopped at a random railroad track so that I could remake some of the pictures I took earlier in my mission. I do not know why but door knocking in areas where the houses are far apart brings me immense joy. After door knocking we had dinner with the Heath family. Luke was supposed to come too, but he ended up getting called into work. We did the pepper and water lesson about the holy ghost with Sam. It was super entertaining to watch his reaction when the pepper went away from his finger. After dinner we did some social media work and had our DL call.
Not that much happened this week other than Zone Conference. One scripture that I liked this week was Doctrine and Covenants 24:8, "Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for, lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days." God is always with us through our highs and lows. He will help us become who he wants us to be!
