They have not found her body yet...

Last Monday was a pretty normal P-day. We had dinner with the Buttiglieri family Monday night. They have a full-bred Great Dane named Ruddy. I love playing with him because he weighs more than me and it is hilarious. After dinner on Monday he was chasing me around the living room. For our spiritual thought with dinner we did the Book of Mormon can smash. It was really funny because they just assumed we must have pre-dented the can. Brother Buttiglieri is now determined to try it for himself!

Tuesday we had our weekly missionary Zoom call. It was super funny because on the call they compared dancing to obeying the rules. You can know the steps, but you cannot dance until you hear the music. The funny part of this is that I love randomly dancing around, so when one of the Elders shared a story of his dad dancing and singing in the kitchen my companion was staring at me! After the zoom call we went to help at the food pantry. It was crazy busy for some reason! That just made it all the more fun though because we were constantly running around to fill orders. After helping at the food pantry we went to visit our elderly members. They are so funny. While we were there we had a really long discussion about the human heart… After visiting them we went street contacting downtown. There were not that many people out…probably because there was an excessive heat warning all week. We went home for dinner and then finished the night with some social media and our STL call.

On Wednesday we got to go to the temple! It is my favorite place on planet Earth. It was so amazing to have the total peace that only exists inside the temple. After our endowment session, we had a sweet older lady give Sister Maynard and I Sister Missionary figurines. They even looked kind of like us, so that was fun. After the temple we the office missionaries made us lunch. It was an extra district lunch because all the missionaries on our session were the elders in our district. It was a hilarious lunch. We learned that one of the Elders does not know the difference between a saucepan and a frying pan! We were all laughing so hard. After lunch we returned to our area. We went door knocking when we got back, did some social media work, and then went to dinner with the Brunette family. Basically Wednesday was just full of laughter because the Brunettes are also super funny. We did some more social media after dinner, had our DL call, and called it a night.

Thursday was crazy busy (yes that is a common trend right now). We studied and then went to do service for Hannah. She is a super sweet young mom who is pregnant with her second child. We entertain her toddler or help with household tasks that you take for granted (like bending down to pick up toys the toddler dumps out). After doing service for her we flew back to the apartment for lunch (we ate lunch in less that 10 minutes) before going to play Uno with Sister McIntosh. Right after Uno we drove up to DePauw for a lesson with our friends Lisa and Carter. It was a really good lesson where we talked about faith and they told us about some really hard trials they went through in the past. After there lesson we went door knocking. We met a super sweet lady who just moved here from Florida…but forgot to get her name. 😕 We shared scripture with her and she gave us Bible verse stickers. It was a super sweet exchange and now we have an excuse to go back (bring her cookies as a thank you for the stickers). After door knocking we had dinner and weekly planned.

On Friday we had a slightly depressing lesson with our friend Luke. He asked to put working toward Baptism on hold because he wants to explore his Dad's church too. He still want to have lessons and come to our church, but he wants to remember what other churches are like. We hope it is a positive thing… After his lesson we went to district council. It was a relatively normal district council. After district council the elders were doing device audits and Sister Maynard and I were eating lunch. She said something and I started laughing and inhaled my cucumber. I was coughing for probably 20 minutes straight and then kept having coughing fits the rest of the day. Do not inhale your cucumber! After lunch we studied and then sent all of our Spanish records to the Spanish Elders so that they can contact them. After that we went back to our area and went door knocking and street contacting. It was super hot outside, but I love walking, so it was rather fun. After door knocking we had Pizza Hut for dinner before having a lesson with our inactive member Charles. I love lessons with him because there are some really good discussions. Sister Brunette came to the lesson with us and she definitely gave him some things to think about! It started storming while we were at his house and he was joking that he brought the storm. Then I was thinking about it and I realized that I do not think we have ever driven back to our apartment from his house not in a storm, so he might be right. After his lesson we went back to the apartment and called it a night.

Saturday was a super slow day of finding. We went store Contacting and the only person interested in talking to us was the bishop's wife! After store Contacting we went street contacting. It was still super hot and there was still almost no one outside, so we watched the Zimmermans make glass instead. It is so entertaining to watch. They made a glass olive oil bottle while we were sitting there. We had a good conversation with him about missionaries and he told us about a cool festival we can volunteer at, too bad it is not until October! After that we went through Preach My Gospel (area book) and attempted to contact more people then went door knocking. We knocked on a man's door and all we heard was, "They have not found her body yet." We are glad that the man was actually really nice and had just been watching a movie! We also walked through the cemetery, because why not? While we were door knocking it started raining, but it was so awesome because the rain made it not nearly as hot. We had a random man give us Popsicles when we knocked on his door. He was not interested in our message, but thought it was cool that we teach people about what we believe. After door knocking we had dinner with an elderly Sister in the ward. We ended up being at her house for three hours! It was kind of sad because she is super lonely. We ate dinner and ended up helping her with things because her caregiver has been sick and she has not come by recently. She was so thankful to just have someone to talk to and we had a really spiritual conversation about God not expecting us to be perfect in this life.

On Sunday we went to Church and our friend Luke came! After church he was talking to some of our members and told them he would be there next week, so positive news after our lesson Friday… After church we studied and then went street contacting. It has finally cooled down some, so it is not as brutal. After street contacting we chalked the sidewalks at a park in the area. After chalking we went door knocking. One lady said she needed to be leaving but that we were welcome back anytime…she said this right after telling us she just watched a documentary on the Mormons. Still not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. We went back to the apartment after door knocking and ate dinner. After dinner we texted a lot of people, did some social media work, and had our DL call. I also officially finished all my animals for Zone conference. Probably my personal favorite one that I made is the Penguin.

This week I learned something cool about the origin of the song, "Brightly Beams our Father's Mercy." It was written based on the story of a boat crash. The lighthouse was lit, but none of the lower lights could be seen, so the Sailor did not know the way into the harbor and ended up crashing. It was good reminder that Christ is always light, but it is our job to be the "lower" lights to those around us!
