On Tuesday we went to visit our regular elderly members. They are so sweet. While we were there I think we talked about everything from patriarchal blessings to temples to the plan of salvation. It was definitely all over the place, but they get so excited when we come. After that we spent most of the day visiting other elderly people in the area. It was a super fulfilling day even though it went very definitely from the day we had planned on. Tuesday night we had dinner with the Barker family. It was the first time I ever really met them. They are hilarious. After dinner we played the priorities game with them and it took them almost an hour (we only used half the cards to make it go faster). The mom went to the bathroom and her family got rid of her friends while she was gone. They ended with pretty solid priorities at the end….even though workout and exercise made it!
On Wednesday we tried contacting people in the store and it was kind of a big fail. We will have to try again later, but pretty much no one wanted to talk to us. After store Contacting we went to help at the food pantry. The food pantry was also a lot slower than normal. Wednesday was a rather slow day overall, but we had some positive contacts in the evening. We met a family who had met with missionaries in the past. They told us they were not interested in learning more right now, but said that the reason they started reading the Bible and working to follow God was through a member of the church so that was super cool. They told us that if we were ever having a bad day we were always welcome to stop by their house and talk to them. Wednesday night we also finally got around to wiping down our car by hand. There has been bird poop down the side of the car for probably about 4 weeks now, so that was positive.
Thursday was our busy day again this week. I do not know why that has been a common trend recently. We panicked because Luke never joined the video lesson which was very out of character (turns out he forgot what day of the week it was and was sleeping). We were very relieved that he was not ghosting us. After that we played Uno with our elderly member and read the scriptures with her. After her lesson we had a lesson with our friends Lisa and Carter. We had a really good lesson about temples with them. We are slowly trying to convince them to come to church, but it is definitely going to take some time. After their lesson we did some service for an old lady and had a lesson with her. We are not sure how interested she is in learning more, but we will see. After her lesson we had dinner and started weekly planning for the upcoming week.
Friday morning we finished weekly planning before going to district council. Our zone also started a blitz for the weekend to invite people to Sacrement and get them there. At district council we talked about sharing our testimony with those we meet and growing our faith. Right after district council we went on exchanges with the STLs. Exchanges were the highlight of my week. I went to Jeffersonville with Sister Smith. We went out to contact some of their friends, but decided we were going to talk to everyone we saw. We saw so many miracles! We were able to give a lady a Book of Mormon and have a really good conversation with her. She said that the missionaries can come back and teach her more! After talking to her, she sent us to her neighbor to pray for him! He said he was busy right then painting (he very clearly was - he was covered in paint), but told us a time that we could come back. After visiting their friends we went out street contacting at a park in the area. While at the park we were able to invite 2 people to Church and had a really long conversation with a lady about family history. We left the park almost 20 minutes after closing, but the lady we were talking to was the lady closing the gate, so we did not get locked in. 😀 After that we went to their apartment and ate dinner…at 9 o'clock at night. After dinner Sister Smith played the piano for me. It made me so happy to just sit there and listen to her play. After playing the piano we called it a night and went to bed, but not to sleep. We layed in bed talking, but as Sister Smith pointed out the standards only say go to bed they say nothing about going to sleep…
On Saturday morning we had the realization that neither one of us set an alarm. It is a good thing that I am a morning person and was awake waiting for an alarm to go off, so I knew when it did not! For our workout Saturday we went on a run and then Sister Smith taught me boxing technique. Sister Smith actually ran WITH me! We went on a mile run before our boxing workout. I never knew how good of a workout boxing is, but it is definitely a work out. After working out we did some studying and went to do some service for a member. We were sanding the walls in a room that they were remodeling. It was super funny because at the end Sister Smith and I were completely covered in white powder. The mom said they were just trying to make us part of the family because their last name is Snow. We went home and re-showered after that. After changing into our dresses we drove to Corydon to exchange back. We were meeting at the church because they had ZLC right after. We took them on an adventure to the basement (aka. The dungeon) to finish our exchange. It was super funny because the door has multiple latches so we walked down the stairs and the door latched. Sister Duckett was in a panic that we were locked down there…we were not but it was rather funny. Sister Duckett and Sister Maynard also found us a new friend on exchanges! After exchanging back we went back to the apartment and planned the rest of the day. We decided to go to the lower part of our area because we had nothing set in stone for the day. It was super cool because we knocked on our friend Randy's door and he came outside to talk to us. He starts the conversation with, "I knew y'all were going to be here today." We told him God must have told him because we had not known until shortly before that we were going to visit him. He told us last week that he was going to come to church but never showed up. Turns out he overslept, but said he would be at church this week. Randy was a good reminder that God will help you know where to go as you seek to follow him and work hard.
On Sunday we had 3 friends at church! Luke's work schedule officially switched so he has Sundays off and can come to church! Our friends Randy and Charlie also showed up. It was a super exciting Sunday in the Corydon ward because that is more friends at church than we have had if we combine every week since I got here. After church we had lunch and studied before going out to visit people. None of our contacts were super successful, but we had a very successful time door knocking. We knocked on a lady named Wanda's door and we were able to pray with her and leave her with a Book of Mormon. She said that she is rarely home, but to try to stop by anytime we are in the area because she would love to learn more! We also knocked on the door of a man who had just lost his wife. We were able to say a prayer with him, but at the end he was crying. It was super sad. After door knocking and contacts we had dinner with the Harvey family. Their son just got back from his mission, so he showed us new object lessons . It was really fun. He also told us a story about when his companion hit his finger with the wrong part of the can on the Book of Mormon can smash. His finger swelled and he could not move it for a few days. After dinner we went door knocking on the way back to the apartment.
It was a rather busy week. We are also having a sister's bazarre at zone conference (every sister makes something for all the other sisters in the zone), so I have frantically been crocheting animals during meals. It is a mightly good thing there are only 8 sisters in the zone (counting my companion and I). This week I liked the scripture Matthew 11:28-30. It is a good reminder that the Lord will always lift our burdens if we let him. We are on this Earth to find joy and help all those around us find and experience Chirst's joy with us. There is so much joy to be found and miracles to be recognized if we are only looking for them.
