On Tuesday we dropped off more cookies to people and had three lessons with friends! It was an amazing day of lessons! One of the lessons was with our friend Justin. He had been taught some in the past, but told us he would be interested in learning more. We answered many of his questions during the lesson and he wants to continue to learn more! One of our other lessons was with our friend Kaylob. We do lessons over the phone because he lives way on the other side of our area. During most lessons he is not super engaged, but on Tuesday he was super active in the lesson. After the lesson he gave us a play by play of the new Transformers movie—which took like 40 minutes—and I still have no clue what happened in the movie. We also went to the crochet group. (I am working on a new baby hat.)
On Wednesday we went to help at the food pantry and then visited some people in the area. We had a sweet lesson about how trials help us grow with our friend Sena. We also got to visit an older couple in our ward who lives off in the middle of nowhere. It was a super sweet visit. They told us all about their family. After that visit we had lunch in front of the library. Our district leader call happened in the middle of the day, because he did not want to give one of us the short end of the stick and call around 9:15 pm. We went to Dane and Ashley's apartment for a lesson after our District Leader call. In our lesson, we started making baptismal plans!! We also read part of Ether 12 with them. We went to update areabook after their lesson, but areabook is having technical issues. Ashley's dot disappeared and has still not reappeared, so we have still not updated her lesson…good thing it is the same as Dane's. After their lesson we had dinner with the Swopes. The Swope family is amazing. After dinner they showed us pictures that they had taken at the zoo earlier that day. There were some really cool pictures! After dinner we had an amazing member present lesson with our friend Ben. We taught the Plan of Salvation and the Spirit was super strong!
On Thursday we did a lot of service. I vacuumed the house for one of our older members, while my companion visited with the member. I love mindless tasks like vacuuming. After we vacuumed, we played uno with her and her granddaughter. It was really fun. After uno, we went out to lunch with one of our other elderly members. We got breakfast for lunch. It was amazing. We helped that member clean out her pool after, so she can sell it. Cleaning the pool was the most fun I have had in a long time. Physical labor is my kind of fun! It took us two hours to scrub it out, but it looked good at the end! After service we weekly planned and a member dropped off dinner for us. We had a phone call lesson with a friend after dinner. That friend has had a super hard life and is mad at God for it. It was a rough lesson where he asked us really hard questions.
On Friday we went to help at the food pantry. After the food pantry we had wonderful plans. Our district leader's older brother served in our area before they pink washed it. His brother always talks about Tasty Freeze (an ice cream place in our area.) It was our last district council of the transfer, so we decided to bring him and his companion ice cream. We were very proud of ourselves because we got it there without it melting (it is an hour drive). We had district lunch at Macalister and had a super fun "campfire" district council. After district council we had a lesson with our friend Mike. We read through part of the Book of Mormon with him.
On Saturday we woke up early because we made plans to go to the temple with Alan. We got permission from our mission president as long as we did not drive ourselves. Alan agreed to drive us and it was a wild ride. We were 30 minutes late to the temple because Alan "did not need a map." It was super amazing to be in the temple with Alan. It was super spiritual and he got to perform baptisms for the dead with my companion and I. I am so glad that I have gotten to be on the journey with him. After the temple we left to drive back to Newburgh. We kept driving in circles and went a weird way back. It took us 6 hours to get back to our apartment! I have never been more car sick in my entire life! It was a very fast and Jerky car ride back. We stopped for lunch on the way back (in Owensboro) it was not supposed to be on the way back. We also got a tour of Henderson - also not on the way back. It was wild, but fun to spend most of the day with Alan and Karen. After we got back we contacted so people and then left to have dinner with a member. When we got back from dinner we were drained!
On Sunday we were supposed to have four lessons, but they all fell through except one. We went to visit people in the area and wish them a happy father's day instead. We went to visit Bill who is an older guy in the area (we call him Santa Bill because he looks like Santa and every Christmas dresses up as Santa). We had a really good visit with him and he is going to show us how to make pens later this week. I am super excited. After our visit with him we had dinner with Alan and Karen. We had a lesson about the Plan of Salvation.
The last few weeks have been busy and the coming week is going to be busy too. We get transfer calls this coming Wednesday for transfers on Friday, so that is busy too. There are so many wonderful things happening in the area!
