On Tuesday, We had Zone Conference. I loved Zone Conference! The focus was on prayer and personal revelation. Sister Alder said, " Don't try to make the perfect world, Christ made the perfect scenario for everyone." I really liked that quote because it reminded me that opposition helps us to grow. God gives us trials to help us become what he wants us to be. Life was not meant to be perfect. We also took the clean apartment award for the second transfer in a row!! Every cleaning award once again went to our district…maybe we are simply the most competitive. After Zone conference, we went to dinner with some of the Sisters in the zone. It was super fun!
Wednesday was our Zone camp day. We were not allowed to be in our apartment between 10am and 9pm! We left at 8:45, so we were gone for more than 12 hours. We went to help at the food pantry at 9. There was not a lot that needed to be done, so we stayed for a short time. Wednesday afternoon we had a good lesson with Dane and Ashley. We talked about faith and centering our focus on Christ. After our lesson with Dane and Ashley we had a lesson with our friend Lisa. It was a wonderful lesson. Lisa put me on the spot because apparently I light up when I get excited (when I think of a scripture that fits with the lesson). She asked what I personally had learned from the Book of Mormon that I had not learned from the Bible. It was a really cool experience to be able to testify about what the Book of Mormon means to me personally. The spirit was super strong during the entire lesson! After her lesson we ate dinner next to our apartment pool. We are not allowed to go swimming, but the pool was a great place to eat dinner. We probably really confused anyone nearby because we were at the pool, dressed up, eating dinner, and crocheting.
On Thursday we decided to go to Tenyson. It is the furthest east part of our area. In my three months here I have never been there, so we decided to go on an adventure. We had some really good contacts and were able to set up some lessons, so that was cool. After our adventure we came back to the apartment and weekly planned.
On Friday, we went to help at the food pantry again. There was definitely more that needed to be done than there had been on Wednesday. After helping at the food pantry we went to court. One of our members is a prosecutor, and we went to watch him. It was entertaining to see how fast they transitioned from one case to another. Our member said we needed to get out more if we thought that was enjoyable. After watching court, we got to go visit one of our older members in a nursing home. Sister Woodward also got to play the piano for some people while we were there. It was a good day. We had dinner with the Porters at a pizza place in the area. It was only the parents because all their kids were busy, but it was fun. That night we did a come follow me lesson with Sister Whisler and Brother Carlson. We heard some wild stories during that lesson - including one about child birth!
On Saturday we had multiple lessons fall through. We ended up going to visit some older people in the ward instead. One of the people we went to visit had just recently had a stroke. It was super sad to watch him telling his wife that he did not remember certain things. She told us and him the entire story about his stroke. He apparently was looking at his watch and telling her that he could not see it. He then told her he could not read anything. She called the eye doctor who told her if it is both eyes, the eye is not the problem! They went to the hospital and sure enough he was having a stroke. Thankfully he is recovering very quickly and doing well! After visiting them we visited one of the other elderly members in our ward. She is super sweet and told us all about her family while we were there. After that we had dinner with Sister Matthews at La Campirana. It is a really good Mexican restaurant in the area. After dinner we did a virtual Temple Square tour with Sister Whisler and Brother Carlson. (It was supposed to be with one of our new members, but she ended up getting sick!) After that we finished the night off with a lesson with Ben and the Porter family. It was a really good lesson about the priesthood, and after the lesson we started making baptism plans!
On Sunday we had Ward council, which means we had to leave our apartment by 7:15. In Church we talked about finding strength in the Lord and allowing him to take our burdens. After Church we were supposed to have multiple lessons, but they all ended up canceling on us. We had to completely replan our day, but we got to watch the area webinar on the Addiction Recovery Program. It was super informative and gave us new ideas on how to help out friends. Also, Dane has been Word of Wisdom Clean since Wednesday!!!! On Sunday night, we went to help one of the people in areabook pack to move. She was all over the place and I am still not sure what happened during the 45 minutes we were there. We went to dinner with the Huss family after that. I love the Huss family! They have six kids, and all topics at their dinner table are entertaining.
It was a pretty calm week (probably because all our friends kept canceling on us), but it was also a really good week. Our friends are making really good progress towards Christ!
