On Tuesday we went to Chandler to visit people there. We also went to the old lady crochet group. I love crocheting with them because it is a mindless service project. Sister Woodward has officially learned to crochet…we joke that it is a requirement in our area. After crocheting we went to dinner with the Hoffman family. I love their kids, because they are so funny! After dinner we went to visit a older guy in our area book. We ended up talking to him for an hour during which time he guessed our ages. I am 14 according to him. Sister Woodward is 24. We think it is super funny because everyone thinks I am a child. He also told us that next time we come by he will show us how to make his fancy pens. I am super excited because his pens are so cool!
On Wednesday we went and helped at the food pantry. After the food pantry we studied at the park and then we biked around Boonville to visit people. We stopped by to visit Sister Perry at work and ended up spending an hour there. I love her! It was a kind of sad day because we had 3 lessons fall through, but we still got to have a lesson with Dane and Ashley! Their lesson went really well. We talked about temples and family history. We also made an action plan to help them with the word of wisdom! We have really high hopes for their success.
On Thursday morning we had a lesson with our friend Brittany. We taught her the plan of salvation. At the end of the lesson we asked her if she had any questions. She asked if we could come back next week and teach the same thing to her son! That was super exciting. She also pulled out the bible during our lesson and we realized her Bible was from the church. We gave her the Book of Mormon and she said she is going to read it before our next lesson. I am excited to see if she reads all of it in a week. I am so excited to continue teaching her. After her lesson we went back to the apartment to weekly plan and eat lunch. We went to visit people after lunch, but it did not take nearly as long as we expected, so we decided to go door knocking in a senior apartment complex. We decided we were going to offer service, but everyone kept telling us they did not need anything. We knocked on this lady's door and asked if she needed help. She said no, but she knew some people who did. She then put on her shoes and went out to knock on doors with us. It was a wild experience, because she kept telling these people that we were here to help them, so they needed to figure out something for us to do. None of the people she brought us to needed help, but we got to have a cool conversation with her and her nephew. After door knocking we had dinner with the bishop and his family. We made them play the priorities game as a family and it was the funniest thing to watch them debate with each other.
On Friday we had district council. The elders in our district had collected a few hundred jolly ranchers for our friend Dane, so that was fun. We also got to meet one of our self-referrals for the first time. It was super cool. He started asking us about repentance and told us he just wanted to turn his life over to God. We are super excited to continue teaching him! On Friday night, we had dinner with the Hall family. It was entertaining because their boys kept saying "hey guys" to get our attention. Their mom told them, "that's not what we call them," so the rest of the night they said "hey missionary" to get our attention. We made them play the priorities game after dinner. Their son thought it was only fair for us to play after them. I realized that priorities are a lot easier when you are on a mission. After dinner with them, we went and had ice cream sundaes with Dane. We were sitting on the porch with Dane, because Ashley was not home, and ended up meeting his neighbor. While we were there his neighbor asked how long we had been on missions. We answered and Dane put two and two together that this was my first area. It was super funny because he was like, "Wait, you were a brand new missionary when you got here!" When I said yes, he said he did not realize because I could find scripture passages taster than anyone he knew. That made me super happy! We ended up having a conversation about missions. The neighbor told us never to forget that "our mission is only as good as the Jesus in us." It turns out that he is a minister and thought missions were super cool.
On Saturday we separated Jolly ranchers into bags, so that we can give away the extra ones in flavors our friend does not want. We went door knocking in a elderly neighborhood and we decided that we were going to ask them for their best piece of advice for the younger generation. We are then going to make cards, so that they can give their advice to someone in their life, because we thought it would be a fun project. We got some really funny responses. One guy started very subtlety bashing us in his advice. At the end of his advise he told us we needed to listen to it because we were an "ism" and isms are all wrong. We thought it was really funny. We asked another guy what his name was and he responded "Still is." His wife told us his name, but it was really funny when we realized that was his dad joke (his name had not changed so it "still is" Bob). It was a super fun activity because so many people were willing to talk to us. We went and visited some people in the area, but we ended up having time left over before dinner, so we decided to cold call people in area who had not been contacted recently. We ended up getting in contact with someone and he still wanted to learn more. He has just been super busy. He said we can text him uplifting scriptures and quotes multiple times a week so that was exciting. We had dinner with the Tidwell family. They have super cute little kids who are so entertaining! After dinner we were on the phone with one of our inactive members who was having a rough day and she told us she wanted a gun, followed by, "so I can shoot the devil." We thought that was a super funny quote. On Saturday night Sister Woodward promised one of our other inactive members that if they tried to make it to church they would have a good night's sleep. On Sunday, they missed church, but called us afterwards to tell us they had slept better than they had in years. They missed church because they slept through it!
On Sunday, we had church. After church we went to Alan's apartment. He made us chocolate cake because of the golf game! We thought it was super funny. We decided to have to new member lesson with him while we were there. We ended up being there for around two hours. After our lesson with Alan we attempted to contact some of our friends we have had trouble getting in contact with. None of them opened the door, so it was not super productive. After that we had dinner with the Huss family. Their family is super fun! After dinner the Mission president had told all the missionaries to watch the Young Adult face-to-face. It was super funny because the main topic was marriage!
This week I have been studying Genesis. I love verse 13 of chapter 9, "I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth" because rainbows are a promise from God. He will never flood the entire Earth again. That promise is super amazing and we can be reminded of it every time we see a rainbow. Plus, rainbows are beautiful!
