On Tuesday we got a call from one of the people in area book that we just started teaching again. It was the wildest phone call—still not sure what happened. He was telling us about ways of getting back at people, his friend not liking their parents, someone committing suicide, and a lot of other random information we did not need to know. After that we went to visit some people and then went to the crochet group. Right before crocheting we wrote inspirational messages all over the sidewalks at the library to uplift people's day. We decided to write our phone number on the sidewalk to see if anyone would call us. At crocheting the ladies told us that we should try to make 8 hats this week. Definitely a challenge, but they are coming along. After crocheting we went to Azzip Pizza with Sister Matthews for dinner. Azzip Pizza is probably my favorite restaurant in the area, so it was a hit. I also got to hear Sister Matthews and Sister Woodward compare stories because they both got sent home from their missions for knee injuries. It was cool to see the very clear understanding they had when the other person was talking.
Wednesday was a pretty busy day. We went to the food pantry in the morning, then we had a meeting on Zoom right after. (We did it sitting in the car.) After that we decided we were going to chalk the sidewalks at a nearby park. Chalking has led to a surprisingly large amount of positive contacts. Also, while we were at the park I caught a frog!! After chalking, we attempting to contact a lot of people - both in person and over the phone. After that we had a lesson with our friends Dane and Ashley. It was a cool member-present lesson where we talked about priesthood power and helped them with an action plan for the Word of Wisdom. After their lesson, we rushed back to Newburgh for a lesson with our friend Lisa. Lisa's three year old daughter was home (which is not usually the case) and she made the lesson so entertaining. During the lesson she completely emptied my bag, brought many toys into the living room, manhandled their poor cat, and climbed all over everything. It was wild. Also their cat was shedding, and I do not think I have ever had more cat hair on me in my entire life! I had cat hair up my nose, in my mouth, all over my clothing, and everywhere in my bag.
Thursday we had district council in Vincennes and interviews with President. That took most of the day because it is a long drive. It was our last interviews with the Alders because it is their last transfer - kind of sad. We also had virtual apartment inspections—not a concern considering that we keep our apartment very clean, but kind of entertaining.
On Friday we took the time to weekly plan because there was no time on Thursday. There truly are miracles from detailed weekly planning. We ended up setting up a lesson and getting a new friend during planning. We also went to teach our friend Brittany and her son. It was our first lesson with her son, so he was our second new friend in a two hour period! We taught him the plan of salvation and he was super engaged in the entire lesson. That night we had dinner with Sister Whisler, and she invited her non-member friend to join us. She made us chicken fajitas. It was a really good dinner appointment. After our dinner appointment we had a lesson with Dane and Ashley. We talked about obeying the law and how we could better help them with the Word of Wisdom. They are working so hard and getting so close!! We also had an ice cream party while we were there. We called Alan earlier in the day, but he missed our call. He called us back at 8:30 pm. We proceeded to be on the phone with him for 90 minutes before Karen told him to let us get ready for bed! It was super entertaining, but I have no clue about half of what was said during that call.
On Saturday we had a lesson with our friend Tinotenda, and he invited his entire family to join the lesson! It was a super spirit-filled lesson and they are so ready for the gospel. I am super excited to continue teaching them. After that we decided to go return the notecards we made last week. We decided to go to an older community and ask for their bast piece of advice for the younger generation and then write it out and return it so they can gift it to someone in their life. We had huge success returning them (people thought they were super cute), so we decided to do it again. Someone got mad at us for soliciting (we were not selling anything) and threatened to call the police on us, so we left the area. We went to hype up Dane and Ashley instead because it was day zero for the word of wisdom! We had an entertaining visit where Dane told us all about Bigfoot. After our visit with them we went to the Farnsworth's for dinner. It was my first time having dinner with them, but it was highly entertaining. They played the priorities game after dinner and they were super into it. We stopped by the Perry's since we had not seen them in a while. We had an awesome contact with them and were able to set up a lesson for later this week. That night we had a video lesson with two of our less active members. It was a strange lesson, but both of them made it to Church, so I would say it was successful.
On Sunday we went to church and then went over to Alan's for lunch (at 3 pm). Between church and lunch we had some time so we contacted people in the area. We went to visit a friend that we stopped actively teaching. She told us all about Bigfoot (wild beliefs about how they were not on the ark, but lived through the flood with Noah?) and aliens. Lunch with Alan took a really long time. We ate and then we taught him one of the new member lessons (or part of a lesson..) Alan also gave me an entire lesson on how to hit a golf ball. I am still really bad at it! We also got a self referral that we called right after that and had a lesson over the phone. She had really deep questions and gave us her entire life run down over the phone. and the call was weird. We had many weird phone calls this week...surprisingly none of them were from chalking.
This week was crazy busy, but we have so many friends that are learning and progressing. It is so amazing to watch the joy people find as they make Christ the center of their lives! I am so thankful for the gospel and the direction that it has given my life.
