On Tuesday we went on exchanges. The exchanges were wonderful! I went to Evansville North with Sister Saylor for the day. We had such an amazing time visiting people in the Mt. Vermon branch. We visited a lot of old people that said no one had stopped by to visit them in a really long time. It was super sad to hear that, but exciting that we got to visit them. It even happened to be one of their birthdays, so that was cool timing. After visiting people we went to Sister Saylor's favorite ice cream place in their area. It is called Milk and Sugar. It is just a super cute little shop. We had dinner with the Clower's family in the branch. They are absolutely amazing, and to make it even better they asked how we liked our steak cooked and they did not think it was a crime that I like it cooked until most people think it is burnt (he actually cooked mine that way. It was amazing)! After dinner Sister Saylor had to be on a mission leadership call, but we did not have time to get home before then, so we stayed with the Clowers and she did her meeting in the other room. Sister Clower and I had an amazing conversation about the joys and struggles of missionary work in the area and the miracles of the gospel. She is a convert and she said one reason she knew the church was true was by the organization (it is led entirely by men and there is no way they could do that without God's help). I thought that was a super funny way of putting it. After Sister Saylor's meeting we went to visit one more member and then headed home. At this point we had around 2 minutes to spare before curfew. We got pulled over on the way home! We could not figure out what we could have possibly done wrong (we have a robot that yells at us if we speed or are driving aggressively). Turns out the lights (that are supposed to be set to always turn on) were not on all the way (the parking lights were on but not the tail lights). The cop made fun of us because it took us a really long time to find which paper in the glove department was the vehicle registration. We then waited a really long time for him to come back with Sister Saylor's license (he had to find it online because the physical one was expired and new physical copy had not arrived in the mail yet). He then let us go on our merry way with only a warning. It was quite the exchange adventure. Also, at that point there was no way we were making curfew, but it all worked out. Sister Saylor and I had an amazing time talking about all the random things on our minds.
On Wednesday, we decided to go study at a library. It was really peaceful. After studying we went to exchange back. We got to hear all about the adventures in Newburgh 2nd. I MISSED THE HOT RAMEN CHALLENGE!! The Brown Family in our ward made both Sister Strong and Sister Woodward do it. They got it on video and it was super funny. Sister Strong even beat my time! After we exchanged back I got to have personal study again - definitely a win in my book. We then had a lesson with Dane and Ashley where we went over some of the points we still had not taught them. After the lesson we had dinner with the Swope family. I love them so much! Sister Swope gave us flowers from her garden after dinner, so we have pretty flowers in our apartment!
On Thursday we got to weekly plan. After weekly planning we went over to Sister Whisler's and rearranged her furniture for her. On Thursday night we had dinner with one of our friends and a lesson. It was a sad lesson, because instead of shifting her baptismal date back she asked to take a pause on working towards Baptism. I know she will make it eventually, but right now she is taking it slow. That lesson kind of broke my heart!
On Friday we had district council. The STLs got to ride up to district council with us. It was a fun drive, but we were 20 minutes late to district council. After district council the STLs were exchanging with the Onley sisters, so we waited for them to exchange before driving back. We were so late driving back that we dropped the STLs off and went straight to our dinner appointment! We had dinner with the Farnsworth family at 5 because we had a lesson with Ben at 6. We ended up inviting Rex (the Farnsworth's son that is leaving on a mission soon) to join our lesson with Ben. Ben's lesson went super well and we ended up putting him on date!! We were asking what date worked for them and his dad goes, "I am off next Saturday." Probably a good thing Ben vetoed that because that would have been not much time to plan a baptism and teach all the lessons.
On Saturday we ended up having multiple lessons fall through, but Alan invited us over for lunch so it ended up working out. For some reason we have a hard time scheduling new member lessons with Alan, so we just talk about a few points every time we see him. We finally made it through the restoration! While we were there Alan told us he needed to get rid of his old cigarettes, but he could not just throw them away because they were expensive. We told him that we would dispose of them for him, so he gave us his cigarettes to throw away! He said he needed to keep one box (as a reminder to him of what he left behind), but we told him only if it was empty. He sent the cigarettes down the garbage disposal - still not sure if it is going to get clogged, but it was wild. After Alan's our day went a little wacky. We got followed by multiple creepy men. The worst one we were sitting in a parking lot making calls, but we needed to go to the bathroom, si we went into McDonald's. This guy in the parking lot immediately followed us in to the building. My gut told me he was following us, but we went in the bathroom (he thankfully did not follow us). As soon as we got out of the bathroom, he stood up and followed us out of the building. He followed us all the way to our car, but thankfully there were people around, so when we slammed the car door he turned and walked the other way. That really spooked us, but glad we are okay! We had a lesson with Dane and a member after that and the lesson went really well. We had to shift Dane's date back, but he will make it! After Dane's lesson we had dinner at Azzip Pizza and then did Come Follow Me study with Sister Whisler and Brother Carlson. Saturday was definitely quite the day!
Sunday we had Church and a pretty laid back day. I am so thankful for Sunday and the peace that comes through church! Sunday night we got to go with the Elder's and watch them give one of our friends a blessing. It was super peaceful. After the blessing we went to dinner with the Kelly Family. They are so funny! Their four year old daughter might be one of the sassiest people I have ever met. Her facial expressions and comments kill me! Dinner was even more entertaining because they had family visiting.
This week I have been studying Jacob. I really liked chapter 4, verse 10, "Wherefore, brethren, seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from his hand. For behold, ye yourselves know that he counseleth in wisdom, and in justice, and in great mercy, over all his works." I have been pondering that verse because I know in my life sometimes I just want things done my way, but the Lord's way is always better and he has a plan. He works in every detail of our lives!
