On Monday night we drove down to New Haven for a lesson with our new friends John and Michelle. They are both super sweet, but it was definitely an interesting lesson. Afterwards John gave us an absurd amount of tomatoes (like 20). He also handed us each a fresh Kidney bean to look at. Curiosity killed the cat (having never held a fresh kidney bean we decided to eat it - definitely not the smartest move on our part). After their lesson, we drove to Lebanon and had three back to back calls with the district leaders and zone leaders. Thankfully we have wonderful missionaries in our zone so those calls went really well despite us not feeling great. We then realized we had forgotten Sister Sharp’s phone in Bardstown, but it was too late to go back (thankfully I had the SIM). We then spent the night in Lebanon.
On Tuesday morning we got ready to blitz Lebanon. Still not sure how it took us over an hour to plan the day. Sister Christensen and I went to Springfield and Sister Mehr and Sister Sharp stayed in Lebanon. We also got introduced to one of the creepy men in Lebanon while we were there. He has since referred himself to us times and called at least 2 other missionary companionships in the mission. We all just went on the finding grind for the day. I am not sure what on Earth possessed us to think it was okay, but Sister Christensen and I had both SIM cards with us… Sister Sharp and Sister Mehr were left to figure everything out with one phone and no service. 🤦 The funniest part of the day was when it started down pouring. We were on a road under construction, and all the construction workers ran for cover – including the flag man!! There was only one open lane of traffic and no one to stop people on either side. Thankfully it worked out, but it was quite bizarre. We met some really cool potentials for their area. At 5pm we were all supposed to meet at the park and contact before switching back and us driving back to Bardstown. The sisters mixed up the time (and had no service), so we were in a total panic when they did not show up. We finally got back together and drove back to our area. I then got to hear the sad day of Sister Sharp and Sister Mehr (they did not have nearly as much success and their day was chaos without a working phone). We were both slightly discouraged by the day, but when we got back to our area went straight to a lesson with our friend Brittany. It was an amazing lesson and made us so thankful to be back in our area with each other. She is super sweet and her son Ivan is the cutest! After that we ate dinner and had a call with the zone leaders to plan Zone Conference. Thankfully Zone conference planning went pretty smoothly (other than the sisters calling us because [creepy man] had stocked them and was contacting their families back home through Facebook). After that we called it a night, because it had been a crazy day!
On Wednesday, we had an awesome lesson with our friend Joe in the morning. He wants so much to learn and understand the gospel. After his lesson, we contacted people and ate lunch. After lunch, we did some social media work and then went to the food pantry to help. I love the food pantry. It was a pretty slow day, so we deeply cleaned everything. After the food pantry we were supposed to have a lesson with our friend Michael, but we did not find a woman to go with us. We decided to knock on his door anyway and tell him, but he ended up not answering. We then had our district leader call followed by a boonie run (we went to visit people in the middle of nowhere). We finally hit some of the areas that are far away, but of course it was pouring rain the entire time. We did have a good conversation with a man named Tony (too bad that he lives 30 minutes from the church). After that we got a million calls from Lebanon's creepy man on the 30 minute drive home. We were then supposed to wash our car, but all the car washes were closed because of the rain, so that did not work. We were supposed to have a lesson with our friend Cecilia, but she did not answer the door (and her drunk son drove himself home, so we did not stick around)... We then went home and ate dinner before finishing zone conference planning with the Zone Leaders. Wednesday night we also concocted the potion for if anyone looses the challenge.
On Thursday we went to zone conference. The main topic of Zone Conference was working with members. People found through members are about 3 times more likely to get baptized. Some of my favorite quotes from zone conference are:
- “Your ancestors goals are in your smiles,” “If everyone hates you…sleep! If you hate everyone…eat! If you hate yourself…take a shower!" (Sister Johanson)

On Friday we had a lot of lessons fall through, so we just spent the entire day visiting people. We did however have a really good lesson with our friend Courtney. She is so sweet and has such a desire to learn. Now we just have to help her to act on that desire. A wacky experience on Friday was that we had a random man in a car bark at us (like a dog). {Aunt Marilyn Duperre saw this and asked if Marvin Miller was in town.}
On Saturday we were really failing at beating the Sacrament attendance boss, so we extended 62 church invites. We also ran into a lot of people who were either drunk or high. One man talked to us while drinking (he was already beyond making sense) and 5 minutes later drove by us in a truck…kind of scary. Another man was only kind of drunk, but it was awkward because he was hitting on me (so we taught him about the word of wisdom). We have been working hard to unite with members since zone conference so we visited some people and got people that they would like us to visit.
On Sunday we had our friend Joe, his mom, and our new member Murphy at church. They are awesome! After church we studied and then drove to stake missionary coordination. We were there for an hour (but got some really good ideas on how to help the stake). After that we drive home, talked to people, ate dinner, and had Branch coordination. After Branch coordination we did social media and talked to the district leaders. It was a day full of meetings, but we did manage to barely beat the boss!!
It was a chaotic week, but also a good week. God is in all the details and I know that he loves each of you!
