On Monday night we had a super slow evening. We had a phone call lesson with our friend Ron. We then messaged a lot of people, did social media work, and had some extra study time before calling it a night.
On Tuesday morning we had an adventure. We were texting random people in our planner who had met with missionaries in the past. We texted a man asking if he would be interested in meeting with hs and he said yes. He then asked if we could bring a specific member with us (from the other ward) and come that night. We somehow got the member to agree to come with us and set up a time for that evening. After that we had another phone call lesson with our friend Ron (sadly, shortly after he called back and told us he was no longer interested in learning more). We also had a phone call lesson with our friend Paula. She is amazing, but unfortunately she is not in great health, so we are yet to have met her in person. We then rode our bikes to help a lady who was moving clean her house. It was a party because I love cleaning! When we got back from service the member joining us for our lesson that evening called. It turns out he had no clue who the man was and was wondering if we had anymore information, unfortunately we did not. When we showed up for our lesson that evening, all the doors to the house were open yet no one came to the door. The house looked like there had been a total war (broken glass, stuff everywhere, and it looked abandoned). Later the friend texted back and told us he had gotten drunk and it hand not ended well for him or his family, so hopefully we are able to teach him and help things, but kind of scary. After that we had a lesson with our new member Justin. He and his Girlfriend were there and they are soo funny!
On Wednesday we had Zone Conference. We drove the Hermanas with us and the roads kind of killed everyone in the car. They are super windy roads and we all go there car sick. Zone Conference was fun and I got to see Sister Bastian! After Zone conference we drove back (and got to our lesson almost an hour late due to traffic). Thankfully our lesson was with Jackie and she is pretty flexible and understanding, so it all worked out. After her lesson we drove back, but took a wrong turn so the drive was extra long. We did see pretty awesome Christmas lights after our wrong turn, so at least that was fun, though I am pretty sure we were not in our area…Overall we spent about 4 hours in the car Wednesday and I was definitely ready to be free.
On Thursday we had weekly planning, we also decided to make it a bike day, so we were biking around the area visiting people. We went door knocking and met a potential new friend so that was super exciting. As we were getting ready to bike home to get there before it got dark an elderly lady called us and asked if we wanted to come eat pizza with her and sit around a fire. Of course we agreed! We rushed home and switched to the car and then drove to her house. She is pretty amazing, although she is not currently being taught she loves the missionaries. We ended up being there for 3 hours and she told us a lot about herself. I love her!
On Friday we visited people and then had a two hour lesson with our friend Pam. She is on date to be baptized and she is so ready. She loves to talk though, so her lessons always end up going over. Probably the cutest part of her lesson was when I said something about hard commandments and she looks at me and says, “This might sound dumb, but which of God's commandments are hard?” That was after she had been taught about the Word of Wisdom, Law of Chastity, and Tithing! After her lesson we went door knocking and had a pretty slow night.
On Saturday we decided to hit the far corners of our area. We had a lesson scheduled with one of our new friends, but she ended up in the hospital so that lesson fell through. We ended up door knocking instead and found a new friend who we set up a lesson with so that was cool. It was a good reminder that God puts you in places for a reason. After that we kept visiting people. We got to one of the people's houses and he was melting lead to make bullets. He was not interested, but he was really nice and showed us all the steps to make a bullet…it was really fascinating. We also drove past a pretty bad car accident before the police got there. The roads are narrow and windy with big ditches on the sides. One of the cars involved was totally in the ditch. We thought about stopping, but there were already a lot of people pulling over to help and we did not want to get in the way. Saturday night we had dinner with the Picketts. I love them! They always have the most random and fascinating stories.
On Christmas eve we had a combined church service with the other ward. It was entirely music based and it was really fun. After church we went door knocking, but no one wanted to talk to us. We then went to the Bishop's house and played games with his family and the Hermanas. We also held some of their reptiles. My favorite was definitely the baby tortoise! After playing games with them we went to the Shelly's for dinner. They made Chinese food and it was really good. They have 5 daughters and have only lived here for two months. They just moved from 300 acres, so they were telling us about some of their adventures. After dinner we went back to the Bishop's house and helped them wrap their children's presents. It was a lot of fun and to make it even better we completed all of the 12 days of Christmas challenges despite our busy day.
On Christmas we had a rather slow day. We played basketball with some members at the church and then talked to family. We also made some treats to deliver later this week. Then we went to crash the Picketts. They are so sweet and we talked about random things. We found out that Sister Pickett holds the record for the most doves shot by a girl in a day in Argentina. I think we learn something new about them every time we go over! The week felt so long, but there were so many good things that happened!
