On Tuesday we had our weekly mission call and then we had a lesson with Luke. He is so ready to be baptized, but unfortunately is still waiting on his work schedule. In his lesson we went over the plan of Salvation written out as love. After Luke's lesson, we had our STL call. I love our STLs so much! Then we spent most of the day with old people. We went to visit two of our older members in the nursing home. We always share a spiritual thought with them when we go over. It was super funny because one of them did not put in her hearing aids so they were having two completely different conversations. It was super confusing, but also extremely entertaining. The two of them are so sweet, they make me so happy. After that we went to help an older lady clean up her apartment. For some background information…she called us last week asking for help and said we had helped her previously. We had never met her nor did we have a record of her, so we assume that some missionaries at some point helped her. 🤷 We were expecting to help with some basic housework. That is definitely not what we found. Her living room had a 3 foot pile of trash and her entire table was also covered in trash! We ended up spending 2 hours cleaning just the living room and part of the kitchen. We took 5 large garbage bags of trash out of her apartment!
Right after our cleaning project, we went to dinner with the Yandow family. They are super sweet and live kind of in the middle of nowhere. Their two year old son made me so happy because he just thought everything was funny and was laughing almost all of dinner! After dinner they showed us all of their animals. We had a mini photo shoot right before curfew Tuesday night. We ended up with some really entertaining photos. Sister Maynard is working on drawing the entire zone, so every companionship was sending in a picture (I think ours was the most entertaining).
On Wednesday we had a slower day. We went to help at the food pantry. It always makes me so happy because I love mindless work! After helping at the food pantry we had a lesson with our friends Lisa and Carter. We read some of the Book of Mormon with them and talked about holding to the iron rod. After their lesson we drove all the way to the edge of our area to try to get in contact with the lady we gave a Book of Mormon to a few weeks ago…and she was not home! After that we went back to the apartment for the night. We finished off the night cold Calling people and doing Facebook work.
On Thursday we had a Sister's Companion Study with all of the sisters in the zone. It was super fun. We went through the talk, "As Many As I Love, I Rebuke and Chasten" by D. Todd Christofferson. It is a really good talk about how trials help us grow and become who God wants us to be. After Sister's Comp Study we went and played our weekly UNO game with one of our elderly members. After UNO and sharing a spiritual thought we went to the apartment and did some weekly planning. The theme for our weekly planning board was treats this week. After weekly planning, we went and finished cleaning the lady's kitchen that we started earlier in the week. Then we went to dinner with the Swarens. I love having dinner with them because they are super sweet and funny. After dinner we did some Facebook work and called it a night.
On Friday we had our last district council of the transfer. We left earlier than normal to get there, but still managed to be late because there was really bad traffic. After district council we spent most of the day doing finding activities. We went chalking at a park and then went door knocking in a neighborhood in our area. Then we went to visit some people and went back to the apartment for dinner.
On Saturday we attempted to contact so many people! We went to visit many of them in person, but most of them were not home. After contacting people we went door knocking. There was a cute little bridge we got to walk on while door knocking and it made me so happy. After knocking doors we had dinner with the Smith family. I love them so much! Right after dinner Sister Smith went with us to a lesson with our inactive member Charles. I would say it was probably one of the best lessons we have had with him. We went over the gospel of Jesus Christ and managed to avoid getting stuck on any deep doctrine questions. I have been learning since being on my mission the power that comes from knowing Bible scripture references. People trust the Bible, so by referring them to the Bible it helps them gain trust in your teaching and definitely brings the Spirit into lessons. After his lesson we were driving home in the dark. It was a really eerie feeling because we were in the middle of nowhere and there was a lot of lightning. It looked like the backdrop in movies when something bad is about to happen, but we got home safely, so all is well.
On Sunday we went to church. At church the topic of Sacrament meeting was virtue. I really liked the story someone shared in their talk about a young man who made the decision that he would always live worthy to call on the Lord in confidence during his time of need. For second hour at church we talked about missionary work and how everyone has a role in helping bring others closer to Christ. After church we had some time to study and then went chalking at a park. After chalking we had dinner with the Brunettes. Then we went door knocking. After door knocking we went back to the apartment and did Facebook.
I cannot believe it has already been an entire transfer! Transfers are this Friday, so transfer calls will be this Wednesday. It is so crazy to me how fast time is flying by.
