Provo MTC

This morning Keziah Sister Sorenson left Plano with her mom, dad, Sara, Hans-Ilkka, and Timo to go to the DFW airport. It turned out to be a very exciting trip! The ice storms that resulted in flights earlier this week being cancelled left plenty of ice on the roads and the freeway between home and the airport. There were two inches of ice on the road in the neighborhood. Nonetheless, the intrepid travelers set off bright and early and were traveling nicely on the freeway until someone ahead of them started sliding. Because it was so icy, Robert swerved a bit rather than hitting the brakes to avoid the other vehicle. That sent the Sorenson family spinning in three complete circles, just as three other vehicles were doing the same thing.

How did the family respond?
  • Robert: Focusing intently on the road
  • Christine: Screaming
  • Keziah: Watching the rest of the family
  • Sara: Asking, "Are we going to hit anyone?" [Did I get this right?]
  • Hans-Ilkka: Praying, very loudly
  • Timo: Staring, wide-eyed and silent
The Sorensons van ended up facing the wrong direction, but, miraculously, no one crashed into each other or the cement barriers on the freeway. With hearts pumping, they all made it to the airport and dropped Keziah off for Delta flight 1545 to SLC.

There were five other missionaries on the flight to SLC. All had been stranded in Dallas for a few days during the ice storms and were happy to be on their way to Salt Lake.

Keziah arrived in Salt Lake without incident, where she was met by Aunt Jennifer and cousin Braylee. All her lovely, pink luggage arrived also.

Here's a photo with one fellow missionary. He's from Alabama and had a layover at DFW that turned into three days at the Dallas mission home and time with the Dallas missionaries. He's headed to the Provo MTC and then his mission in Salt Lake City.

We drove to Provo and met Lawry and Maddy for lunch at Kneaders (the same place where Lawry and Ammarita had their farewell lunches with Aunt Jennifer before going to the MTC).

The next stop was the Provo MTC. Since it wasn't a typical Wednesday drop-off, we got to go in the front door instead of dropping Keziah off in the parking garage. Keziah checked in and texted her mission companion to let her know that she had arrived. We took a couple more photos, and then it was time to say good-bye. However, since Maddy works at the MTC, we left her there with Keziah, which made the whole parting thing seem less sad. Keziah was happy and excited to start this part of her mission.

p.s. Keziah's blue suit was sewn by great-grandma Alice Jerabek!
