360s on the Freeway

This week was definitely an adventure. I started online MTC on the 23rd and was supposed to come in person to the MTC on the 1st of February. Due to ice storms in Texas, my flight was not canceled once, but twice. I did not end up flying out until Friday morning.

On the way to the airport, the car in front of us spun out. My dad swerved to miss them and it sent the car into a 360 spin. We spun on ice across all 4 lanes of traffic and then back before coming to a stop. We miraculously did not hit anyone made even more miraculous by the fact that two cars around us spun out at the same time. I definitely know that God was protecting us in that moment.

On my flight to Salt Lake there were 5 missionaries. All of them had got stuck in the DFW area because of the ice storm. Three of them were heading home after their missions, but one other Elder and I were both late to the MTC. Once I got to Salt Lake City, I had lunch with Lawry, Maddy, and Aunt Jennifer before they dropped me off at the MTC.

On Friday I definitely felt thrown into everything. I arrived, dropped my bags in my room and went straight to class. I love my classes, but it was definitely a lot to take in to meet everyone for the first time and be in class right away.

My district is wonderful. We have 3 sets of elders and 4 sets of sisters. Apparently we are one of the biggest districts, but no one from my district is headed to Kentucky with me. Elder Walton is our district leader. He is very kind and super organized. He is serving in the Alabama. Elder Rawlings is his companion, but he is serving in Florida. He is quiet, but kind. Elders Goodmanson and Murray are companions and they are serving in Las Vegas. Elder Goodmanson is a super kind person who likes to quietly serve people. Elder Murray is extremely funny. Elder Higginson and Hubbard are companions and they are serving in Austin, Texas. Elder Higginson and Hubbard are very similar. They are both extremely tall and try really hard to do the right thing. Sister Vance and Robbins are both serving in Washington, DC. Sister Vance is really sweet and a deep thinker. Sister Robbins is also super kind, but she is more outgoing. Sister Moffat and May are both serving in San Antonio. Sister Moffat is super outgoing and Sister May is really funny. My companion Sister Cloward is outgoing, kind, and loves to talk.

The highlight of my MTC stay so far was definitely choir practice. We are singing a really pretty song called "He Lives. He Lives." at the devotional tonight. It will be the first time that the song is ever sang as a choral arrangement.

Another fun thing from my time in the MTC was that Sunday night at dinner Elder Murray and Goodmanson had a staring contest. Their contest lasted well over 5 minutes with neither one of them blinking.
