On Monday we went to Lincoln's birthplace with our district and explored the museum. It was so much fun. After P-day we had a lesson with our friend Tyler and it was a lot less bashy than the first. He had a lot of genuine questions from his reading of 1 Nephi and was a lot more open than he was in the first. After his lesson we had a call with our sweet member Kristen followed by a call with the zone leaders to plan the week.
On Tuesday we had our mission wide Zoom call and talked about obedience. My favorite quote from the call was, “The blessings will always come as a result of obedience in every situation.” (President McGinn) We then biked around to visit people most of the day. Unfortunately, most people did not open the door. It was a really fun bike ride though. On the way home a storm blew up and it took us twice as long to get home as usual. (We were biking straight into super strong winds that kept moving our bikes.) Thanks to that wind though…I now know what it feels like to be a plastic bag blowing in the wind. :) It is a inside joke with the sisters because they asked us why the line of a song said that. After we got home we ate dinner and then had a call with the SMLs to talk about stories for the Friends of Christ page. We are changing things up with the addition of reels.
On Wednesday we got to go to the temple!! I love the temple so much. It is such a place of refuge from the chaos. After the temple we hurried back to our area to do service at the food pantry. They were crazy busy which made time fly. Right after service we joined a call with the SMLs, DFTCs, and ZLs. The call went really long, but we had some really good ideas on it. We may have sparked the “lower light invitations.” After that call we finally had personal study. After personal study, we contacted people and did some Facebook work. We then went to the Branch pool party. Unfortunately it was raining, but one of our friends still came and a lot of our members. We had fun in the pavilion and people still went swimming since there was no thunder or lightning. After the party reported, had a call with the District leader, and finished planning some things.
On Thursday the chaos continued. We had a zone comp study where we talked about testifying contacts. We then challenged the zone to get more testifying contacts this weekend then they had the last. After Zone comp study we had district council. At district council the Zone leaders trained on us bringing forth the fruit of Christ's vine and then we counseled about using both the Book of Mormon and Bible in our teaching. After district council we blitzed in our area. Both the sisters and elders found us a new Potential. Unfortunately we had to leave to get to our service at the thrift store. Service there was also super busy which made the time fly. After service we were supposed to have a lesson with our friend David, but he did not show up :(
We ended up actually getting 15 minutes to eat lunch instead. We then planned the stories for the month of July, weekly planned, and attempted to have a lesson with our friend Joe. He is super hard to understand and it did not end up working out. After his attempted lesson we had dinner with the Cochran family. They are some of my favorite people and bring me so much joy! After dinner we started planning our training for the deep south district and then had a call with the Lebanon Sisters.
On Friday we drove down to Sulphur Wells for Deep South's district council. They talked a lot about the importance of showing charity to those we come in contact with we trained on diligence (we talked about how we have to work to become good at things). After their district council we went to the well to drink Sulphur water. I broke the record for the sisters of 9 cups by drinking 10, but I definitely threw it all up right after… The Elders in that district now think that both my companion and I are crazy. (She drank 7 to beat her past companion.) I got to sign the record cup, but everything I ate the rest of the day tasted like Sulphur so it was a win-lose kind of situation. After that we ate lunch and visited all the people in nowhere land in our area. We had a few really good contacts. We then had personal study followed by a lesson with our friend Karl. He is absolutely amazing! After his lesson we made some videos to send the Simpsons, ate dinner, and finished the night with a call with Kristen.
On Saturday we decided we would get 30 testifying contacts…so we got 35! It was a really good day, but crazy busy. We testified in almost every call or text we sent and talked to EVERYONE we saw. We also had a district call in the middle of the day where we practiced teaching using both the Book of Mormon and Bible. (It was supposed to happen at District Council but we ran out of time.) We then biked around to visit people which was really fun, but we were still short on testifying contacts coming back, so we walked through downtown with our bikes and talked to some more people. It was a good reminder that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and have God by your side. After that we ate dinner, reported, and finished the night with some social media work.
On Sunday we went to church and had 2 friends come. The Simpsons were able to make it which made us so happy! After church we studied and then visited some people. We then had dinner with the Rideners. They are so sweet and so funny. Her nonmember husband made us some cool crosses out of wood. After dinner we had Branch coordination, did social media, and had a call with the district leaders.
It was a long week, but there are so many amazing things happening. God’s work is definitely moving forward! I am excited to see what my next transfer brings. So many of our friends are getting so close. I KNOW that God loves all of his children and his plan is the perfect plan.
